I am sorry to hear of your losing Sam. Sometimes they will die after a few weeks of owning them. It probably wasn't what you had done if you have the things he needs, but possibly the turmoil he went through before you got him. They go through a lot of stress in shipping and changes they endure before they are finally purchased.
At least we can make them the most comfortable as possible before they do go.

How many hermies do you actually have Jordan? I only knew of Gort and Hermie, then Sunset. I had never heard of Sam. Do you have anymore?
