Hi Christopher,
Yes their shell measurements are the width of the shell not the opening. I bought a couple of the African shells from them and they are beautiful but my big guys didn't stay in them long. They liked a shell I got several of from ebay, that I can't find any where and haven't been able to identify for sure yet. They are similar in shape to the sharks eye shells, but much larger
