Hi Seth,
Not sure if I understand you, are your hermies coming completely out of their shell, actually leaving it?

Or are they just extending themselves part way?

If they are actually leaving their shells you have a problem.

If they are just extending themselves part way they are just being social.

if you want your crabs to be social with you I would recommend talking to them and holding them for a few minutes on a daily basis.
