Hermit Crab Care

Hi Danny. In reply to your fighting hermies - Sarah - 7/25/2004
I have actually not encountered this before, but I have a few friends that do. They say to seperate the fighting hermies for a while.
Do you happen to know why they are fighting? Maybe fighting over a shell? I take it back. I had my first two fight over the shell that was on ones back. The second one wanted it so badly and nearly pulled him out. I ended up putting several shells in the tank. It helped tremendously. I never had another problem. Actually what ended up happening is the one in the admired shell changed, and the second hermie that wanted it, took it after. I think the first guy knew, but just wasn't ready to go without a shell. THey need the shell and would die without it. I do hope this helps. I am sorry I wasn't here sooner to answer your post. I hope that it helps! If you thihnk it is the shell fighting like my own, I would put plenty of shells a little larger or the same size as the ones they are in now, and keep them seperated for a while until you get some to find out. If they still fight maybe it is more, but this will be a good place to start.
Could you let me know what types they are? Thank you!
