Hermit Crab Care

Re:How Do I Know.... - Sarah - 6/7/2004
Do you see the link on the top Ryan? It says Care Sheet. If you click on that you will see a molting page. That will show you what to look for as in signs of molting and it is actually easier when one is missing a leg that needs to regenerate. They will grow a gell limb in the place of the leg, and it will turn to a golden brownish color when it is time to molt. There is a photo in the Molting page to help you. For some it is best to seperate them. This is mainly due to the fact that other hermit crabs like to eat freshly molted exo of the others, and sometimes get carried away and eat the molted hermie also. Yuck huh?? Anyhow. You will find all of this in the care sheets section. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Oh yes. You can handle your other hermies when a molter is present. It shouldn't bother him. You just don't want the molters being handled much and it is best to keep them seperated from the others. Have a great week!
